Design Connect strives to empower students and citizens by advancing collaborative, democratic, and sustainable design and planning projects in local communities.
Who We Are: Design Connect is a multi-disciplinary, student-run, community design organization which strives to empower students and citizens by advancing collaborative, democratic, and sustainable design and planning projects to improve local New York communities. Engaging directly with local community partners, student teams develop specific public-interest design and planning projects from initial ideas into conceptual designs. This enables communities who otherwise lack the capacity or resources to advance projects.
While the communities receive design services, students experience practical interdisciplinary application of classroom concepts outside normal studio projects.
These volunteer student teams are formed and guided by an all-student board with support from Cornell faculty.

Our History: Design Connect was formed in the spring of 2008 by students as an initiative of the Design & Planning Group and became an independent student organization in 2010. View our past projects for examples of Design Connect’s work.
